Head-on Crash Kills Dutton Man

Icy roads are being blamed for the death of a Montanan early Wednesday evening in North Dakota. Highway Patrol reports that Robert Barke’s pickup collided with a westbound pickup which lost control due to the icy road conditions.

Police say the two trucks collided head-on and both vehicles were totaled beyond repair. Both men were driving 2017 Ford pickup trucks.

Barke, 59, died before he could receive medical treatment. McKenzie County roads are notoriously treacherous during the winter months.

The collision occurred on Bear Den Road, near Mandaree, from which Barke was traveling. It’s reported that Barke was on his way to Watford City when the crash took place.

The driver of the westbound pickup has been identified as Luis Saldana, 19, of Watford City. Saldana did not suffer severe injury. Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident. Saldana may yet face charges.
